THE AMA AWARDS
Sponsored by Member Organisations, AMA instituted six annual awards for professional excellence in different categories: They are:
AMA-Metrochem
Outstanding Manager of the Year Award 2008
(Sponsored by Metrochem Industries Ltd.)
OBJECTIVES :
a) to recognize the significant contribution(s) made by a person in
managerial profession,
b) to motivate upcoming professionals and enhance the prestige of
the profession by enabling them to exercise their skills and competencies
in the best possible manner; and
c) to directly or indirectly contribute towards the improvement of
managerial effectiveness in different spheres.
ELIGIBILITY:
Following are the broad criteria for selection to the Award:
a) The nominee should have been practising as a manager in Gujarat
State during the previous three years. The definition of “manager”
may comprise those associated with public, private and cooperative
sector organisations, community and social service, as well as entrepreneurs.
b) AMA desires that managers with high potential are encouraged. Those
who are already recognized by other agencies for similar work are
not likely to be chosen for this award.
c) The contribution to be recognized for the AMA Award will be outstanding
achievement(s) of management or a kind of work which will benefit
a sizeable group of people, irrespective of their category. While
the work concerned may relate to one or more functional area (s),
the emphasis will be on integrated approach to managerial effectiveness.
AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT AND PRESENTATION:
The Award will consist of a Trophy and Citation. Appropriate publicity
will be given on the qualifying contributions and the individual receiving
the Award, through mass media, including radio and television.

AMA-Atlas Dyechem Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2008

OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of instituting this award are:
1. To recognize the significant contributions made by entrepreneurs
2. To motivate young men and women to imbibe the entrepreneurial spirit
and thereby encourage more and more people to venture into entrepreneurship,
and
3. To encourage contribution in boosting the economy of the State
through entrepreneurship.
ELIGIBILITY:
Following are the broad criteria for selection to the Award:
a) The nominee should have high degree of entrepreneurial qualities
as reflected in his management style, innovativeness and leadership.
b) The nominee should have demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial
ability and innovativeness in the choice of products, technology,
location, etc. and achieved high levels of performance and growth
for his organization in the recent years.
c) The nominee should be the promoter of an industry based in Gujarat.
d) The nominee should be known for his high degree of personal integrity
and exemplary standards of business and professional ethics, both
for himself and for his organization.

AMA-Zydus Cadila Marketing Man of the Year Award 2008

OBJECTIVES:
To encourage and reward outstanding contributions in the field of marketing, AMA has instituted the Marketing Man of the Year Award. This annual award has been sponsored by Zydus Cadila Healthcare Ltd.
ELIGIBILITY
Any person employed in the field of marketing, in the decision
making level, or responsible for marketing operations.
He/she should be employed in organisation located in Gujarat.
SELECTION CRITERIA : The selection will be made by a distinguished
Panel of Judges on the overall contribution to the orgnization, and
his/her role in achieving the growth and performance. Amongst other
things the following criteria will be looked into by the selection
panel.
Years of experience
The type and range of products and services dealt with
Magnitude of effect on the market
Difficulty in introduction and dissemination in the market
Innovative practices, if any, adopted
Other factors (Overall personality, Involvement in training
and development, Extent of cross functional experience/expertise,
Participation in public/institutional activities and programmes, publication
and other activities of a public nature, overall contribution to the
development of marketing in society.

Ramanbhai Patel-AMA Shreshtha Shikshak Award 2008

The Shreshtha Shikshak Award has been instituted by the Ramanbhai PatelAMA Centre for Excellence in Education to honour teachers who have been providing an environment for learning that encourages students to be problem-solvers, decision-makers, life-long learners and contributing members of a changing society.
The Award has been instituted in the memory of the late Shri Ramanbhai B. Patel, Founder Chairman of Zydus Cadila. Beginning his career as an academician before turning into an entrepreneur, Shri Ramanbhai Patel had always believed that an educational system must help a child become a seeker and an explorer and it is the teacher who fires the passion to be a life-long learner.
Achieving excellence in education is not restricted to just academics
alone. It entails an overall grooming of a child’s personality.
Excellence is discovering new ideas, developing a mindset that explores
possibilities of bringing about a change and contributing to the betterment
of the society. It is about preparing a child to be a citizen of the
future. A Shrestha Shikshak journeys with the child along all these
paths - nurturing, motivating and inspiring one to achieve greater
heights.
The teacher nominated for the Shreshtha Shikshak Award characterises
the following:
Demonstrates commitment to the well-being and development
of all students.
Treats all students equitably and with respect.
Knows his or her subject matter.
Engages in ongoing professional learning and applies it to
improve his or her teaching practice.
Communicates effectively with students, parents and colleagues.
Conducts ongoing assessment of students’ progress, evaluates
achievement without bias
Collaborates with other teachers and school colleagues to
create and sustain learning communities in the classrooms and in the
school.
Volunteers services/assumes responsibility for extra curricular
activities and other projects that the school undertakes and participates
with enthusiasm.
Provides an environment for learning that encourages students
to be problem-solvers, decision-makers, life-long learners and contributing
members of a changing society.

Anubhai Chimanlal-AMA Centre for Management of Civic Affairs instituted
an Award for outstanding work in the area of improvement of city life
done by an:
(a) Individual
(b) Organisation – private, NGO or Government
(c) Individual / Group of Department of the Municipality
The contribution should be by way of concrete action and not just
ideas or concepts. Contribution may be in the area of the city life
viz. economic, educational, cultural, health, civic amenities, etc.
One of the factors considered would be an innovative approach with
a potential for applying the same on a larger scale and involvement
of a significant section of the targeted group. The contribution should
be sustainable over a longer period of time and preferably have its
own momentum.
The merit must be recognized in five areas viz.
a) An innovative concept or an idea
b) Creation of public opinion or involvement
c) Implementation of an action plan
d) Effective use of resources
e) Immediate and long-term impact.
AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT AND PRESENTATION
The Award will consist of a Citation and a Cash award of Rs.25,000/-.
Appropriate publicity will be given on the qualifying contributions
and the individual / organisation receiving the Award, through mass
media.

and that he/she has agreed to accept the award, if selected.
d. Passport size photo of the nominee.
Nomination along with a brief write-up on the contributions, passport
size photo, bio-data and a consent letter (format given in the brochure)
should reach AMA latest by 30th August 2008
