AMA Expansion - in the words of the Architect Dr. Bimal Patel

The building’s solid length gave it a commanding presence along the busy IIM road and its ‘permanently open’ foyer invited everyone to come and join in its activities. The ground floor, on one side, had a series of comfortable class rooms along with an efficient doubly loaded corridor. On the other side were administrative offices. Its first floor, reached by a dramatic ramp, housed an auditorium and a library.

The transparency of the façade, particularly in the evenings when the building was buzzing with activity, made it possible for AMA to showcase its activities to people using the busy road in front of it. This transparency played a major role in forming the identity of the institution. The present expansion of the building has added a 400 seating auditorium, with an elegant interior design and created a new larger space for AMA’s much used Library. New classrooms will be built in place of the old library. The expansion is designed to be seamless and provides a separate ‘permanently open’ foyer.

Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the Visionary and a great institution builder was such a distinguished personality. He believed that Knowledge is power and gifted with the vision of seeing things invisible, he founded the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), 53 years ago as an institution for achieving managerial excellence.

To him it is the Education that formed the minds. Since inception AMA through its significant activities has grown in strength and stature as an Institute of national repute. Like a Banyan tree is making great statements, AMA commands the highest respect and recognition from all quarters – the business, profession, industry, government or academic institutions not just in Ahmedabad city, but in Gujarat and elsewhere in the country.

AMA, is an ISO 9001 certified organization and an approved institute for Management Training by Government of Gujarat. A pioneer in the management movement in the country, AMA has been contributing to the management profession and the society through its various educational, training and research activities.

On August 31, 1997 AMA achieved a major landmark in its eventful journey with the setting up of its World Class Management Complex with State of the Art facilities at the spacious ATIRA Premises, completing the Project in a record time of 10 months – a perfect model of exquisite Time and Quality Management. On August 31, 2009 AMA will inscribe yet another milestone in its exciting journey when its new complex comprising additional facilities spread over 1250 sq. metres will be formally inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The striking feature of the new complex is that it will house a 400-seat state of the art multi-media projection auditorium. Mr. Rajiv Vastupal who heads the JB Trust and who was the immediate past president of the AMA was not only the inspirational mover behind the expansion project but he also contributed Rs 50 lakhs towards it.

The new auditorium would provide the impetus to AMA’s latest goal to achieve networking with institutions across the state. Initially the auditorium will help AMA stay connected with Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat cities. AMA has entered into working arrangements with the leading business chambers in these cities for this purpose.

Over the last 2 decades, AMA has been adjudged the Best Local Management Association for a record 16 times by the All India Management Association for its outstanding contributions in professional management and it also bagged the prestigious

World Architecture Award for the “Best Educational Building Complex” in 2001.
