Context:

 

Libraries and librarianship are at a turning point. The information and communication technologies have been a driving force for transforming our libraries all over the world. Most of the scholarly information resources are published in the digital format.

 

The way libraries acquire these resources, provide access to, and deliver the services to their user community have changed the shape and functioning of libraries. The role of libraries as a physical space housing racks of printed books is looking increasingly out of step with the changing needs and expectations of end users at all levels.

 

Adapting to this fast changing world of information, and maintaining their vital role by serving effectively and efficiently, and in much more meaningful way has become a major challenge for libraries and information professionals. This one day seminar on the theme “Future Libraries and Librarians” will address some of the challenges faced by the profession and deliberate on the innovative methods that need to be adopted to position our libraries and librarianship for the future.
