SUMMARY
With the establishment of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on 1 January 2021, a common market of 1.2 billion people with a combined GDP of $2.5 trillion and combined consumer and business spending of more than $4 trillion has emerged. Within this continent, the six country East African Community (EAC) offers immense opportunities, both for exporters and investors on African soil.
EAC is a single borderless Customs Union (single market) of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda and South Sudan. It is one of the most politically & economically stable part of Africa, with a total population of 177 million and high GDP growth. EAC countries also border several land-locked countries with additional export potential. With its high industrialisation and advanced trade logistics, these countries offer a vast domestic as well as re-export market for a variety of products.
This workshop has been organised to focus the attention on the fast-emerging EAC as an economic power to enable Gujarat based exporters and entrepreneurs to leverage this growth to increase their exports and overseas investments.
