Written by: Manshika Mehta, Intern, AMA
Our month of March was solely dedicated to women and prioritizing them. In today’s fast-paced world, women often find themselves juggling between work, family, and personal commitments, leaving little or no time for self-care. However, self-care is crucial for maintaining physical, mental, and emotional health, leading to a fulfilling life. So here we provide several practical tips for busy women to prioritize self-care, including mindfulness practices, healthy eating habits, meal prep tips, and the importance of regular exercise.
Mindfulness Practices for Busy Women
Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present in the moment without judgment. It allows you to cultivate awareness, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. Here are some practical mindfulness practices for busy women:
- Start your day with a few moments of quietness and focus on your breath instead of rushing through your morning routine. This practice can set a positive tone for the day ahead.
- Practice mindful eating during meal times by savoring each bite, paying attention to flavors and textures, and listening to your body’s hunger and fullness cues. Eating is essential and slow eating can help you to digest and function effectively.
- Take short breaks throughout the day to check in with yourself. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and release any tension in your body. This mini mindfulness break can help you reset and stay centered amidst busyness.
- Before going to bed, spend a few minutes journaling about three things you’re grateful for. Cultivating gratitude can shift your perspective and promote a sense of contentment.
Eating nutritious meals is crucial for maintaining energy levels, supporting overall health, and boosting mood. Here are some helpful tips and delicious recipes to make healthy eating more manageable:
- Prepare overnight oats by combining oats, almond milk, chia seeds, and your favorite toppings like fresh fruits and nuts.Store them in individual jars for a quick and nourishing breakfast option.
- Try sheet pan dinners featuring a variety of roasted vegetables and lean proteins. Season with herbs and spices for added flavor and minimal prep time.
- Create mason jar salads by layering greens, veggies, protein sources (such as beans ), and dressing. These portable salads are convenient for busy days.
- Prepare smoothie packs with apportioned ingredients like frozen fruits, spinach, yogurt, and seeds. Blend them with liquid in the morning for a refreshing and nutrient-packed smoothie.
– Incorporating Regular Exercise
Regular physical activity is crucial for overall well-being. Even small bursts of exercise can make a big difference. Take a brisk walk during your lunch break, follow short home workout routines available online, take the stairs whenever possible, and try a short yoga or bodyweight exercise routine before bed to unwind and improve flexibility.
– Prioritizing Sleep
Quality sleep is essential for both physical and mental health. Adults generally need around 7-8 hours per night. Have a good sleep by creating a relaxing bedtime routine, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, and ensuring your sleep environment is dark, quiet, and cool.
– Social Connection
Strong social connections are vital for emotional well-being. Make time for regular social interactions with loved ones, whether it’s a quick phone call or a coffee catch-up. Feeling connected and supported by others can significantly reduce stress and boost happiness.
